Comcast, Time Warner Cable, and Bright House Networks Sell Advanced Wireless Spectrum to Verizon Wireless for $3.6 Billion - SpectrumCo, LLC, a joint venture between Comcast Corporation, Time Warner Cable, and Bright House Networks, today announced it has entered into an agreement pursuant to which Verizon Wireless will acquire its 122 Advanced Wireless Services spectrum licenses covering 259 million POPs for $3.6 billion.  Comcast owns 63.6% of SpectrumCo and will receive approximately $2.3 billion from the sale.  Time Warner Cable owns 31.2% of SpectrumCo and will receive approximately $1.1 billion.  Bright House Networks owns 5.3% of SpectrumCo and will receive approximately $189 million. (click to read release)

HBO Go app hits 1 million downloads in first week (news.cnet.com)  -  BO's mobile app has apparently caught on quickly.Speaking yesterday at the Streaming Media East conference, HBO co-President Eric Kessler said HBO Go's mobile application, which is available on iOS- and Android-based devices, was downloaded over 1 million times during the first week of availability. DirecTV Aiming to Launch its Controversial VOD Service Next Week (thewrap.com)  -  DirecTV hopes to launch Home Premiere, its contentious video-on-demand service next week, an executive with one of the studios involved in the launch confirms to TheWrap. AT&T Starts Capping Broadband (CNNMoney.Com)  -  The days of all-you-can-surf broadband are vanishing. AT&T this week began capping its Internet delivery service for broadband and DSL customers. Sprint Takes Aim at AT&T-Mobile In West Virginia PUC (multichannel.com)  -  Sprint is taking its opposition to the AT&T/T-Mobile deal to the state public utility commissions. Sprint has submitted a formal request of the West Virginia state PUC to investigate the proposed $39 billion deal, saying it would adversely impact West Virginians because it would raise prices, restrict innovation and limit choice. For Time Warner Cable, Broadband Booms (gigaom.com)  -  Thanks to Netflix, the demand for broadband connections for Time Warner Cable is on an upswing. During its most recent quarter (ended March 31, 2011), the company added about 189,000 broadband Internet customers — about 70 percent higher than some analyst estimates of around 111,000 for the quarter. ABI: MoCA Gains Traction (abiresearch.com)  -  In homes receiving cable television, MoCA – one of the most widely-used home media networking technologies – will be supported by some 15 million next-generation set-top boxes by 2014, according to new forecasts from ABI Research. The next generation of set-top boxes extends beyond HD and PVR functionality.
